Sparta's fans can finally celebrate the first win of their team after five consecutive loses. They used home court advantage to defeat Basket Esch (2-4) 87-69 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Sparta. Basket Esch managed to win fourth quarter 25-22. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Sparta looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. American guard Taylor Wurtz (183, college: Wisconsin, agency: LBM Management) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 36 points (!!!) and 21 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). Naturalized Bosnian swingman Esmeralda Skrijelj (180-95) contributed with 19 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. American guard Hailey Dunham (188-87, college: USC, agency: Merit Management Group) replied with a double-double by scoring 27 points, 16 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals and Slovakian swingman Agnesa Szaboova (179-75) added 12 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Basket Esch. Basket Esch's coach Zoran Jovicic rotated ten players seeing no chance for a win. Sparta (1-5) left bottom position moving up to seventh place. Basket Esch at the other side keeps the sixth position with four games lost. Sparta are looking forward to face higher ranked Amicale (#4) in Steinsel in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Basket Esch will play on the road against the league's second-placed Etzella and will have a slim chance for a victory.
